I know I’m going to regret this.
Originally a California car, sold to a Tucson guy in the mid-90s, had a ground-up restoration in 1996 and was appraised at $15k. The owner then proceeded to rack up a couple hundred thousand miles over the next 20+ years, before selling it to a local Volvo mechanic, who went through it and took care of some minor issues. I bought it from him in June and took it to Andy Aragon at Stuttgart Autohaus, who happens to be an P1800 expert, and he informed me that I’d made a smart purchase. He gave the gas tank a good cleaning and worked out a climate control issue, and I’ve been driving it since.
My plan was to make this my daily driver, but I hadn’t realized that driving my 5-year old twins around in a 47 year old car with only lap belts in the back wasn’t gonna work for my wife. My “fun” car apparently has to be a modern one to fit in with my family.
I’ll keep this short.
There were only 8000 of these ever made, factory AC (working) is rare, and 4 speed manual with overdrive is desirable. I’ve never seen a single person look at it without staring at it. It runs and drives exactly as I imagine it did in 1973. Restoration is beginning to show it’s age with some bubbling (pictured), but I found that makes it easier to use as a daily driver without having to fret about it.
I’m very busy. While I’d love to hang out and show the car to anyone and everyone, I can only afford to meet with people who have the cash, know what this car is, and are serious about it. If you have questions, feel free to email me, and I’ll try to answer them and send you pics of other fun stuff I’ve got to go along with the car.
