This is the beautiful Swedish classic “shooting brake” (sports car sporty station wagon with two doors) based on the Volvo P1800 design. This one is in fair condition. It has the original 4 cylinder fuel injected engine with the 5 speed overdrive manual transmission. It also has disc brakes all around, and manual steering with a big steering wheel.
It runs good with two new fuel injectors, and the fuel and ignition systems were just gone through to make sure everything is running properly. This 1800 is an original air-conditioned car; the compressor is still installed, and all the under-dash parts are in a box in my garage and will be included with the sale. The original steel wheels will also be included. Everything is original on the car except the radio is missing.
The car does have some rust but the floorboards are intact and the body looks good but for one cracking spot near the rocker panel. The seats are the original leather and work great for a driver, but if you want to spruce up the interior the seats will need to be re-covered. This car has not been restored in any way, and has many of the common issues with older cars. Wiring could be cleaned up, carpets are faded and worn a bit but they are all intact and all there.
Door panels are there but drivers side is damaged and both could use some love. The dash pad has been replaced at some point and is OK but not perfect. The gauges all work except the odometer stopped (trip meter still works fine). There is a bit of body damage at the front left headlight area, but the light still works correctly and the fender should be easily repairable. The rest of the body is straight with no other major damage. All chrome is present (some dings here and there), and the windows are all clean and not cracked.
This is not a perfect car by any means, but it will make a great driver, and it looks pretty good for a 20-footer. Volvo only made 8077 of these worldwide in 1972 and 1973 so they are fairly uncommon. Restoration parts are available from many sources in the US and overseas. Call me if you want to take a look. Test drives are only for serious potential buyers who prove they have the cash.
