I’m testing the waters here and offering up my 1971 Volvo 1800E.
Before myself, this 1800 had two, long-term owners. The original owner was a surgeon at New England Baptist Hospital (see photo of parking permit on windshield). He owned it for approx. 20 years until has passing. His widow sold it to the fellow that I purchased it from in 2015.
Under my ownership, I’ve installed a new, aftermarket fuel pump, electronic ignition conversion kit, exhaust manifold, four rebuilt calipers with new hardware and pads and some other maintenance odds and ends.
She has 97,495 original miles on her high compression, fuel-injected B20 with a 3-speed BW30 automatic transmission. The engine is strong and healthy without leaks and produces no smoke of any sort. The transmission functions as it should (these Borg Warner transmissions are clunky by design). She’s an overall great running, driving and looking Vintage Volvo.
At some point in her life, it appears that she was resprayed in the original (and rare) Turquoise (color code #104, see photo of ID plate). There is some over-spray in some areas and the paint does not have a shine to it, it’s more matte looking. The body of the car is starting to develop some rust and would ideally need to be addressed by the next owner ASAP to inhibit spreading. You will find pictures of the developing rust areas and two spots of rot on the undercarriage in the photos. There are also a couple of dents in the front grille.
Floor mats, rear seat, headliner and dash are all in great shape. The two front seats have seen better days and need to be recovered. The driver’s door panel looks like someone took a giant bite out of it, don’t ask…
Overall, this 1800E is a good cruiser and gets compliments everywhere she goes. The next owner will want to spend time doing some more fine-tuning to the D-Jet system, a little body and interior work to make it great. To note: the left rear tail light lens has cracked and she needs new wiper arms/wiper blades (kit can be found relatively inexpensively from IPD). I will attempt to replace these prior to sale.
She is registered and insured and ready for a test drive. All required paperwork for the sale will be provided. I’m asking $12,000 or best reasonable offer to let her go. For seriously interested parties, I am happy to take additional pictures or videos. Thanks for looking!
