This twice restored 1800ES is one of the finest on the market. The car has a very detailed & documented history (with all invoices) which traces back to 1974.
My 2017 restoration would not be the first as the previous owner in 1991 hired Victoria’s Thoroughbred Restorations to complete an extensive overhaul. The body and engine work in 1991 totalled nearly $17,000 and since then, the car was only driven “occasionally and carefully” according to the owner’s notes. My efforts starting in 2017 focused on keeping the car as original as possible. With many supporting photos, the car was stripped to bare metal where professional body/paint work followed (code 46). Small amounts of rust were removed and replaced with fresh metal. Whenever possible, the original equipment was removed, cleaned, repaired and re-installed. Otherwise, new parts (through Vintage Import Parts) were obtained and installed. An extensive list of the parts obtained and work done is available by Email to any serious inquiry.
This honest 1800ES has its original B20 engine, a 1986 cc Bosch fuel-injected straight-four that performs beautifully in modern day traffic. The strong motor and overdrive allow the car to maintain highway cruising speeds all day.
These great classic Volvos provide a solid investment in addition to the joy of possessing a piece of art you can drive every day. While ES has been described by some as a “flying trunk” and having an ‘elongated body,’ it continues to turn admiring heads whenever it is out in public. It is the lesser-known sibling of the stylish coupe, but it remains one of the most affordable and reliable vintage estate wagons on the market. It is always recognized for the unique rear glass tailgate. A local musician told me that he hated to sell his own ES as “It’s the only sports car I can fit my bass in” as he showed me how his big instrument used to safely side into the rear.
This car is located in Victoria, British Columbia and offered for sale for $39,500 USD (approx. $47,400).
For national and international buyers, assistance is offered with vehicle shipping.
The car was named Volvo 1800ES
