Bronze god of a historic station wagon for sale. Maybe a demigod is more accurate.
Either way, this is one fantastic, vintage automobile. Must see to appreciate. Price is 20K OBO within reason. Please don’t call to kick my Volvo’s tires. Serious inquiries only.
1972 Volvo P1800 ES 4 cyl with overdrive on the tree. Complete engine restoration by Onofrio at Alfa Italia in Burbank in 2019. Powerband like an uncaged tiger. Sounds like one too. “Raced” (spirited motoring event at a Hemmings sponsored car show) in Feb 2020 at Fontana. Video and photos available.
Car has barely been driven since rebuild. Garaged. Fires up right away when started with a strong engine that clips along like clockwork.
Car has had a long history of all rubber gaskets for the glass being replaced, the paint being redone, body work to clear any rust, etc at Baron Von Frier Auto Body in Richmond, CA in 2015. Rear end rebuilt by Popular Mechanix in San Francisco in 2014. Lots of maintenance work at Precision Motors in Silverlake by Doug before the shop closed last year. Long list of records of repairs and maintenance from both the Bay Area and Los Angeles area specialty mechancs. All mechanics available to comment about this car but Onofrio at Alfa Italia is the most recent to do the most extensive list of work on the car with a completely rebuilt and repainted engine.
Exterior is in good condition. Some wear since the repaint but I do have a full bottle of the touch up color that will come with the car for a professional to use. The car has one area about the size of a stick of Wrigley’s gum that has developed a bubble in the paint. Passenger side has some scuffs from a rogue pylon incident while driving. No other apparent body issues.
The car’s interior is all original and functional as is. The rear seats are in near mint condition. Carpets are not torn and have normal wear but no overt heavy staining or anything unusual to report. The headliner is present but has a few areas with light sag. The rear view mirror plastic has some wear but is functional. The steering wheel has a crack in it and so does the dashboard. All badges and trim pieces are present. Front seat leather is not in great condition and I have neoprene seat covers over the original leather due to some exposed foam on both seats. The seatbelts are all present and in working condition. The dash knobs are all present and so is the cigarette lighter. Clock is present but does not work. All other gauges work. The odometer was frozen when I bought the car so miles listed are taken with a grain of salt at best. Rebuilt engine with fewer than 1,000 miles since rebuild currently.
All new tires were purchased in 2016.
Car has a rare tow hitch that has never been used but would be perfect for a teardrop trailer/motorcycle trailer/mini toy hauler.
Second owner. Orginally purchased from a former Volvo dealer in Illinois who kept the car in a garage for over 20 years. I bought it running rough and restored it to its present tiger-in-the-tank condition. Now it’s your turn to either drive it as is or continue its restoration journey to concourse show condition.
