This is a great opportunity if you’re looking for a drivable project. Not a rust-buck or Frankenstein of several P1800’s put together, but an original unit that’s fun to drive while you restore her back to her glory.
I have owned this car for two years & am the third owner. Vehicle originated in Memphis, Tn, so it’s always been a southern car. She drives well & is equipped with an electric overdrive topping out at about 75mph comfortably, although the speedometer doesn’t work. The only other non-functioning items include the clock & heater blower motor.
The heater actually works, just needs a new armature. All interior lights work as do the wipers. Front disc brakes. 115 HP. 108 cubic inch motor with twin SU carbs. Everything is original except the paint. Motor & transmission appear to have never been pulled. As you can see in the photos, there are rust areas at the drip edges & rocker panels that need to be replaced at some point. Sheet metal specific to this unit is readily available & I can provide insight. No rust on the rockers or frame-only one spot (see photo) with a little surface oxidation only on the frame.
There’s been one repaint & eventually she’ll need a strip, patch the drip edges & repaint to be full presentable. Seals are not too bad although pictures reveal a little moisture, but no dripping or other major issues. No smoking as unit has good compression & oil pressure. New items since I’ve owned it include clutch, headliner, overdrive relay & rear seat foam. Also, all seat stitching has received attention as has new webbing underneath for good support. Dash & door bolsters have after-market caps & are fully presentable.
No missing chrome & vehicle has never been wrecked. Carpet is in good shape & no bad smells or smoking ever appears to have occurred in the vehicle. Rims have been sandblasted & repainted silver.
